The 7th Annual Polar plunge took place on Saturday, January 20th, 2024 and the participation was fantastic.
Chris Taylor got a chance to catch up with organizer Jason Herder who says more than 200 people took part in Saturday’s plunge at the Sons of Kent Brewing Company, raising more than $70,000.
“This is a special event for us as Chatham-Kent has been selected as the host city for the Special Olympics School Championship Games, a return to Special Olympics programming for the first time in Chatham-Kent in 27 years,” Herder says. “100% of the proceeds raised in this Polar Plunge went directly back to the fundraising efforts that our team has been working tirelessly on.”
Herder says $373,000 of the Games’ $400,000 budget has been raised in just eight months.
“It shows the tenancy of Chatham-Kent and how we all wrap ourselves and band together to work together towards a common goal.”
