Construction began in late October 2017 and is expected to be completed this year. The tunnel had been closed during construction from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Because a majority of tunnel users are commuters, the closure schedule was designed to complete the project as safely and quickly as possible, with the least disruption for the tunnel’s 12,000 daily users.
The work is funded by American Roads and Windsor Detroit Borderlink Limited. The project includes the replacement of the ceiling, as well as masonry, electrical work and other improvements.
American Roads is committed to conducting this work while causing the least amount of disruption to drivers. The company greatly appreciates the help and cooperation of its users, partners and the media during this important construction project!
