(LAURENTIAN VALLEY TWP, ON) - The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a serious collision involving two passenger vehicles and a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) tractor trailer.

On December 15, 2021, at approximately 6:30 a.m., UOV OPP officers, Renfrew County paramedics and Laurentian Valley Township (LVTP) Firefighters responded to a collision on Highway 17 at B Line Road. It was determined that the CMV was westbound on Highway 17 when it collided with an SUV that was southbound on B Line Road. The CMV also collided with an SUV that was eastbound on Highway 17.

As a result of this investigation the 23 year-old driver of the CMV, from Winnipeg, MB, has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with red light - fail to stop. The CMV driver and passenger in the CMV were not injured.

The driver of the SUV on B Line Road, an 86 year-old from LVTP, was extricated by the LVTP Fire Department and flown from the scene by ORNGE to an Ottawa Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. A 61 year-old passenger from Kingston in the same vehicle and the driver of the eastbound SUV on Highway 17, a 41 year-old from Deep River, were both taken to local hospital by land ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 17 was closed for several hours due to the investigation and removal of the involved vehicles.
