United Way East Ontario is a major recipient of the donations gathered by Petawawa’s Defence Team.
Garrison Petawawa and its lodger units are proud to announce the donation of $60,563.00 for
the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) held throughout the fall
and winter of 2021.
Over 55% of funds raised was for local charities. The Garrison considers the communities that
surround the base an extension of our military family.
Supporting United Way East Ontario, and other local charities, is a great way for the
Defence Team to fundraise with a broad aim of
supporting the community members who support us. Funds raised through the GCWCC, and
specifically for United Way East Ontario, as a local charity that aims to build stronger, more
inclusive communities for everyone, was fitting given this year’s charitable campaign theme:
Stronger Together.
A wide variety of virtual and in-person fundraising activities took place throughout the campaign
that came to a close in January 2022.
The largest and most successful fundraising event came as a result of a participation fee for
2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group’s Iron Warrior 2021;
an annual two day sporting event that challenges soldiers to undertake a significant personal
challenge, develop their mental and physical resiliency, and to maintain readiness.
“The members of Garrison Petawawa showed tremendous generosity in 2021 and made this
year’s National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign a success. Just as the community
supports our operations throughout the year, we have the opportunity to give back and pay it
forward. I am grateful that we are in a position where we can help those community members
who need it the most by the donation to the United Way East Ontario.”
