Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

On April 28th workers and their families and friends ask that all those who have died as a result of workplace hazard or injured or suffered with an occupational disease, be remembered this day.  The National Day of Mourning was was fixed April 28th to commemorate Third Reading in the Ontario Legislature of the first comprehensive Workers Compensation Act in Canada in 1914.  In 1984 the Canadian Labour Congress declared a 'National Day of Mourning' for workers killed and injured on the job.

In Sarnia, the Sarnia & District Labour Council,(SDLC); Workers Health and Safety Centre, (WHSC); Victims of Chemical Valley, (VOCV) and the Occupational Health for Ontario Workers, (OHCOW) invite everyone to remember those lives we have lost and he many who suffer as a result of hazardous workplace exposures.

The Day of Mourning serves the prime purpose for which it was instituted to create safer workplaces so workers can end their working lives in dignity and health. Please join us in Centennial Park at the Memorial at 6:00 pm on April 28th, so we may remember and support each other.
