This month, General Committee is hearing from Town staff on key issues on Town facilities, budgets, infrastructure, and short-term rentals. Here are some of this month’s topics:
- To continue to foster a family-friendly and inclusive environment at the Canada Summit Centre, General Committee is considering extending the appointment of a security guard for 2024 and beyond.
- Many groups use the facilities at Canada Summit Centre. The Town of Huntsville conducted a survey to receive feedback from individuals and organizations on the possibility of year-round ice at Don Lough Arena. Councillors will review the results of the survey and recommendations from staff. Considerations that will inform their decision include budget, staffing, programming, user groups and event rentals.
- The Town of Huntsville Treasurer reporting an expected deviation of less than one per cent of the total budget forecasted for the end of the year ($91,417). Early expectations will assist staff and council to plan accordingly for the remainder of the year.
- A funding strategy is proposed to cover the Town of Huntsville’s $10,000,000 target contribution to the Huntsville Hospital redevelopment project. This contribution will help support ensuring residents have access to medical services within our community.
- Town staff are asking Council to review a potential crosswalk solution for pedestrian traffic at Cora St E and Brunel Rd, leading to Huntsville High School. If approved, staff will formalize the request with the District of Muskoka.
- At Council’s request, staff are reporting back on the rainbow-themed Pride crosswalk. They are providing cost and maintenance estimates, direction on feasibility, and alternative locations for General Committee’s consideration.
- General Committee will review amendments to the by-law governing Short Term Rentals, with additions to enforcement and renter’s code of conduct.
