Teddy bear picnic returns to Morningstar Mill

July 28, 2023 – Teddy bears and their owners will descend upon the grounds of
Morningstar Mill on Saturday, Aug. 19, for the first picnic since 2019.

“We are so pleased to be bringing this event back to the community,” said Historical
Services Coordinator Carla Mackie. “This is an opportunity for parents, children, and
their stuffed friends to discover all we have to offer.”

The event is open for ages three to 10, and will include crafts, games, lunch
(sandwiches, cut fruit and vegetables, cupcakes and cookies, lemonade, and water),
and tours of the site, including the mill, the house, and the blacksmith shop. There will
also be a nurse’s station for if any teddy bears need minor repairs. The cost is $9.60
plus tax per attendee. The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. All children
must be accompanied by an adult.

Interested residents should call the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre
at 905-984-8880 to register. There are limited spots available, so register now to avoid
disappointment.

The Morningstar Mill is located at 2714 Decew Road in St. Catharines. It is a rural
heritage site featuring a working grist mill that was rebuilt in 1872. It is operated in
partnership between the City of St. Catharines and the Friends of Morningstar Mill.
