Niagara SPCA Solicits Support for Surgical Operations for Two Shelter Dogs

The Niagara SPCA & Humane Society is asking its supporters for help in offsetting the high cost of surgery for
two dogs in their care. “Joey”, a 5 month old border collie mix has an issue with his femur where it connects to
his pelvis. This misalignment causes him to slightly hop his back legs when walking. He will be receiving an
operation called a femoral head ostectomy to correct the issue.

The Niagara SPCA wishes to thank Dr. Jim Turpel of Upper Canada Animal Hospital in Niagara-on-the-Lake who will be performing the operation.
The second dog in need is “Fiona”, a 4 year old lab mix who ruptured a cruciate ligament while playing at the
shelter. The operations are estimated to cost between $4,000 and $5,000 each.

The SPCA has set up a custom donation form where donors can contribute to either dog or split their
tax-deductible donation between the two. At the time of this release, supporters have raised over $4,000 in
online donations. Any donations raised above what is necessary to help “Joey” and “Fiona” will be directed to
other shelter animals in need of medical care.
