Two small dogs are under Niagara SPCA care after being found by a hiker in open crates just off the roadway
at the very north end of Dorchester Road by Firemen’s Park in Niagara Falls. Only two dogs were discovered
despite the presence of a third similar crate in the same area. The two dogs, a male and a female, were found
to be underweight and covered in urine and feces. Animal Services retrieved the canines who were
immediately taken to the SPCA’s Niagara Falls shelter to be cleaned up and assessed by shelter medical staff.
The male, who appears to be a sheltie type dog, is quite social and, while underweight, is active and very
quickly warming up to shelter staff. The female, a wire coat terrier and also underweight, is more lethargic and
remains under observation. She was unable to stand on her own during the extensive bathing she required.
The crates recovered by the SPCA were full of fur, urine, feces and were attracting flies.
Exactly how long the
dogs were in the area remains undetermined.
