On September 5th, 2023, Port Hope Police observed a vehicle with no rear lights, travelling Northbound on Ontario Street at Barrett Street.
Police attempted a vehicle stop in the area of Oxford Street. The suspect vehicle failed to acknowledge the emergency lighting and sirens, then accelerated at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued Northbound on Hwy 28. Port Hope Police shut down emergency equipment and stopped on the side of the road. The officer then observed a light standard fall over near Telephone Road. The vehicle was then located in the ditch near the scene, flipped over on the roof. Three occupants were taken to Northumberland Hills Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
Three young offenders were charged and released.
