93.3 myFM, Classic Rock 107.9 and OLDIES 100.9 are proud to host the 4th Annual Northumberland United Way Radiothon, presented by Cobourg Kia this Giving Tuesday, November 28. This year, our focus is on funding the Northumberland Eats program, a vital initiative in collaboration with Northumberland County. Designed to alleviate food insecurity while bolstering local businesses, this program distributes vouchers to individuals and families facing food challenges across the county.

The Northumberland Eats Voucher Program operates like a lifeline, empowering recipients to redeem vouchers at nearly 25 local restaurants and food vendors. In 2021, with a $140,000 investment, we made a significant impact on food accessibility in Northumberland County. However, a portion of that funding came from COVID relief, and this year, those funds are no longer available, despite the persisting issue of food security.

In April 2022, we launched the Northumberland Eats voucher application to manage the increasing demand. The response was overwhelming – 23 social service organizations applied for almost $40,000 worth of vouchers, highlighting the urgent need for sustained support.

Our program is not just a response to a crisis; it’s an innovative community-driven solution. Emerging at the onset of the pandemic, it has evolved into a network of support, involving more than 25 businesses and 40 social service organizations. By distributing vouchers in 6-month allotments, we aim to make a lasting impact on families in need.

The impact of the program goes beyond numbers. It’s about restoring dignity and normalcy to individuals and families. The numbers tell a story of our impact: 10,318 green vouchers distributed, reaching individuals of all ages and backgrounds across Northumberland County.
