FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 1, 2023 Welland, ON – The City of Welland is seeking nominations through its new electronic nomination form for local athletes, coaches, and teams with outstanding achievements in their respective sports in 2023. The honourees will be recognized at the annual Sports Awards ceremony on April 5, 2024. "In Welland, our tradition of supporting sports excellence runs deep, and the 2023 Sports Awards not only recognize outstanding athletes but also highlight the contributions of those who've elevated our local sports community,” said Community Service’s Amanda Degazio. “It's more than a ceremony; it's a tribute to the dedicated individuals propelling our community towards athletic greatness. We’re thrilled to offer the submissions electronically, and hope to see an increase in worthy nominees.” The Sport Promotion Committee invites the community to complete the electronic nomination form with a synopsis of their nominees' achievements. Awards within the Athlete, Non-Athlete, and H.L. Cudney Memorial categories are open to Welland residents or Welland-based teams who excelled in their sport. Categories will be judged based on the nominator's information. The following criteria for individual athletes and teams are ranked in order of importance below. Level of competition achieved:
