At just after 7pm last night fire crews from all three stations responded to a structure fire at 1166 Metcalfe Street. Firefighters had information that someone may have been in the home, so they immediately initiated a search to try and provide rescue. Firefighters did locate three dogs during the search and immediately got them out of the home but unfortunately, they had already succumbed to the smoke. The residents were not at home at the time of the fire and were safely located later in the evening.
Firefighters worked for hours and finally had the fire extinguished at approximately 10pm. The home has suffered significant damage as a result of the fire and the family of five will be displaced for a significant period of time. None of our personnel were hurt during firefighting operations. The cause of the fire is under investigation though the cause of the fire is not suspicious.
