.The Pine Ridge Chapter of the Ontario Building Officials Association successfully hosted another charity golf tournament this past September, raising a sizable donation for charitable causes in our community. As in many previous years the Chapter elected to donate the full amount to the Salvation Army to support the food banks and other programs they offer.
The Pine Ridge Chapter is comprised of building officials from each municipality within the County of Northumberland and several neighbouring municipalities including the City of Belleville, Otonabee-South Monaghan, and Havelock-Belmont-Methuen. The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit also holds membership within the Chapter. The Pine Ridge Chapter exists under the Ontario Building Officials Association to provide supports to our members and to foster open communication between the building authorities of the represented municipalities. The Chapter also engages in building-related events to encourage communication with local builders and help educate the public on the legislative and regulatory requirements for constructing in Ontario. The annual charity golf tournament, traditionally held at Shelter Valley Pines Golf Club, has been an opportunity to get together with local contractors and builders while also raising funds for local causes.
On Wednesday, November 29th the Chapter was pleased to present a $10,000 cheque to Major Dan Broome of the Cobourg Salvation Army. Major Broome gave a brief overview of the services provided at their various locations which include several food banks, hot soup lunches, free morning coffee, clothing and other much needed supports.
For over a decade, the tournament has been organized by Mr. Rick Jones, previous Chief Building Official of Brighton. Rick retired this past Fall, and the Chapter would like to give a special thank-you to Rick for his exceptional contribution to both the Chapter and the tournament. Despite Rick's retirement, the Chapter plans to continue the golf tournament into the foreseeable future.
The Chapter also wishes to extend a special thank you to all the participants and donors who have given so generously this year and in years past. If any local contractors or builders wish to participate in next year's event, feel free to reach out to your local building official who can connect you with the Charity Golf Committee. Please note, there is limited space, so registration is on a first come first serve basis. We hope to have a successful event in 2024 and continue doing our part in supporting our community.
