Dec. 22, 2023 — Though some City facilities will be closed over the holidays, there is
no shortage of ways to celebrate the season over the break.
Let It Glow
Festive displays will illuminate the city until Jan. 7, 2024. A prime location to visit for a
free, self-guided tour of lights is Rennie Park in Port Dalhousie. Downtown lighting
installations are located at Meridian Centre Rankin Bridge, James Street Alley, and City
Hall.
Scan QR codes found throughout Rennie Park in Port Dalhousie until Jan. 7 for a
chance to win a ‘Port Delicious’ dining experience. More info can be found
at lovestc.ca/LetItGlow.
Free public skating is happening on New Year’s Eve at Seymour-Hannah Sports and
Entertainment Centre, with hour-long skates beginning at 9:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m., 10:45
a.m. and 11 a.m.
All four skating pads will be open, with one being transformed into a glow-in-the-dark
experience with black lights flooding the ice. Rink four will be dedicated to sensory-
sensitive individuals. Skaters should bring along their own safety gear and skates as no
rentals are available, but the concession stand will be open with refreshments for sale.
Visitors can wear neon or white glow-friendly clothing and grab a free glow item from
City staff. Special visits from Disney and Marvel characters are planned. Visitors can
also capture memories in the onsite photo booth and participate in free giveaways.
Residents can register in advance for up to one hour of free ice time on their preferred
rink at stcatharines.ca/NYESkate.
