For Tuesday, January 9th, 2024, this notice is intended to advise the public and local municipalities of the potential for flooding within the NPCA’s jurisdiction as it relates to the Niagara Peninsula, the southeastern portion of the City of Hamilton and the eastern portion of Haldimand County.
Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for our area. Rainfall amounts of 20 – 40 mm is expected throughout the Niagara Peninsula over the next 24 hours. The rain and flowing water over saturated ground can cause significant runoff to be directed into local ditches, watercourses, and storm sewer systems.
At the present time, water levels in the local watercourses are above average but remain well below critical flood elevations. This rain will serve to further increase water levels in our local creeks and rivers and will likely result in flooding typically experienced in low-lying, flood prone areas. Major flooding of watercourses is not anticipated at this time.
Residents are urged to stay away from creeks and rivers at this time due to slippery slopes, unstable ice and elevated water levels as they can be hazardous.
The NPCA will continue to monitor these conditions and will issue further messages as required. Information on the Flood Status in the watershed can be found on the NPCA’s website at:

This notice is in effect until 12:00 PM, Thursday, January 11th, 2024, and will be updated as required.
