The 2024 Float your Fanny Down the Ganny event will take place with some participant category changes due to construction on Sylvan Glen Road.
The Sylvan Glen Bridge is under construction and is not anticipated to be completed by the April 13 event date. This construction significantly effects the crazy craft launch logistics. The Float Your Fanny Committee has reviewed several other configurations and locations but have not found a new suitable crazy craft launch location.
As such, the Committee announces, there will be NO CRAZY CRAFTS for the 2024 event, however, the show will go on!
The signature event is scheduled for Saturday April 13. The Canoes and Kayak categories are unchanged, launching from Country Rd 10 and Massey Road; Fannyville will pop up in the traditional location on Cavan Street and be in full swing with live entertainment, food vendors and hands-on fun.
For one year only, the Crazy Craft category will be replaced with a new participant experience – the Floaty category.
Definition of Floaty: an inflatable object, often fancifully shaped and usually with a circular opening in the middle, designed to support the body in water and intended for recreational use.
This new Floaty category will launch from Optimist Park and travel the rapids down to Fannyville. More details, rules and regulations will be released soon; watch the Float Your Fanny website and social media for updates.
The Float your Fanny tradition began over 40 years ago, when the community rallied together to show reliance in the face of a natural disaster. The Float Your Fanny Committee is calling on the Port Hope community (and visiting participants) to rally on the river once again. The modified participant categories will maintain event continuity and create a new opportunity for participant engagement.
Avid and first-time floaters are invited to start researching and stockpiling pool and lake floaties. The Float Your Fanny Committee can’t wait to see canoes and kayaks return, along with an assortment of weird and wacky floaties!
