Two Markham residents are facing charges after police responded to a report of fraud on Wednesday afternoon

On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 4:20 pm, police were dispatched to a business on Elgin Street in Cobourg for a report of fraud in progress. It was reported that an individual was attempting to use falsified documents to obtain goods and services.

Through investigation, it was learned that one involved individual was currently inside the business while a second involved individual was waiting outside in a vehicle.

Upon arrival, police observed a vehicle matching the description provided travelling eastbound on Elgin Street. Police initiated a traffic stop and arrested the driver without incident. Police then attended the business and arrested a second involved individual.

As a result of the police investigation, a 19-year-old male from Markham was charged with three counts of Fraud under $5,000, two counts of possession of forged documents, use of forged document, and possession of property obtained by crime.

A 21-year-old Markham man was charged with Fraud under $5,000 and possession of forged document.

Both individuals were released on an undertaking with a court date in March 2024.
