The Town of Huntsville is pleased to announce that Summer Ice will be coming to the Canada Summit Centre this year, with ice rentals available for the Don Lough Arena starting at the end of June. At last night’s meeting, Town Council approved this increased service offering in order to maximize usage of the Don Lough Arena and provide a local venue where ice sports can be played and practiced throughout the year, not only in the winter.

“Ice sports are an integral part of our culture in Huntsville and the Town wants to create a local venue where these activities can be enjoyed all year long. We are fortunate to have amazing facilities at the Canada Summit Centre and want to take full advantage of them to benefit our residents,” says Simone Babineau, Director of Community Services at the Town of Huntsville.

Starting June 28, 2024, the Don Lough Arena will be open seven days a week for ice rentals from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. (closed statutory holidays). The Summit Centre offers reduced adult summer ice rental rates. There has already been an enthusiastic response from local community groups and the public.

Given the size and scope of the Summer Ice project the community was engaged for feedback while it was under consideration. All user groups were consulted, as well as residents, through a public survey on MyHuntsville.ca. Summer Ice is good news for the community.

“We are excited about the opportunity to diversify our summer programming with year-round ice. Community feedback from our summer ice survey will be used to inform programming moving forward,” says Jacqueline Surette, Manager of Recreation, Culture and Heritage for the Town of Huntsville.
