The Royal Canadian Legion Fort Malden Branch 157 in Amherstburg, Ontario welcomes all to their annual "family-centered" DECORATION DAY ceremony Sunday June 2, 2024, at the cenotaph in Kings Navy Yard.
The family-centered ceremony opens at 12:15 p.m. The presentation of the Poppy street signs bearing the names of Amherstburg's fallen Veterans will follow at 12:45 p.m.
Decoration Day (first held in June 1890) is commemorated the first Sunday in June by Royal Canadian Legion Branches across Canada as a way to remember those who fought in battles before the World Wars, as well as paying tribute to veterans most recently lost. The “Poppy” street signs are named in honour of fallen Amherstburg veterans.
Guests are invited to the Legion - 281 Dalhousie Street, Amherstburg, Ontario for a FREE book reading - The Anguish of War at 1:00 p.m. presented by Windsor's military historian and author Gene Lotz at 1:00 p.m.
