May 9, 2024 – Ottawa, Ont. – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces
Canadian Army Reserve personnel from 33 Canadian Brigade Group will conduct an All-Terrain
Vehicle (ATV) driver training course on roads and Ontario Federation of All-Terrain Vehicles
(OFATV) Club trails between Ottawa and Petawawa on the weekend of May 10-12, 2024.
Members of the public may see an increased number of Canadian Army vehicles on various
area roads and trails, including the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail (OVRT) and others. The
course will follow pre-planned routes between Ottawa and Petawawa, transiting Renfrew and
Cobden, Ontario.
Participating personnel will conduct planned, short stops and longer halts throughout the
duration of the exercise, stopping for rest, fuel, scheduled maintenance and other training.
Participating soldiers will not carry any weapons or ammunition.
This important training supports the operational readiness of the Canadian Armed Forces,
allowing for greater tactical mobility and flexibility on the modern battlefield.
This training also enables year-round preparations for emergencies in Canadian communities,
including natural disasters like flooding and wildfires, as our soldiers prepare to deploy in
response to Requests for Assistance and to serve alongside community members and other
first responders.
All Canadian Army Reserve vehicle operators train regularly to maintain specialized
qualifications and expertise in the operation of military vehicles. Routine training maintains and
further develops their skillsets and tactical proficiency in convoy and vehicle operations, and
tests discipline, safety, and effectiveness while operating in complex and challenging
environments.
All measures are being taken to ensure minimum inconvenience in these areas during the
exercise dates, and members of the public are asked to take extra caution when approaching
military vehicles and are thanked in advance for their understanding and co-operation.
