Art for All: THRIVE Initiative Provides Art Program Offerings and Engagement Opportunities for Older Adults

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON - In a dedicated effort to foster creativity and inclusivity in the community, the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre is thrilled to announce the resumption of its no-charge programs tailored for individuals aged 50 and above. Thanks to the generous support in-part from the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program, the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre continues its offerings under the THRIVE program - Introduction to Creativity for Seniors initiative.

Rima Boles, Director of the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre, expressed her gratitude, stating, "We are delighted to continue providing accessible artistic opportunities to older adults in our community. Art is a powerful tool for self-expression and connection, and through THRIVE, we aim to enrich the lives of seniors by fostering creativity and social engagement."

A previous grant allowed Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre to purchase a glass kiln, along with enhancing its pottery equipment.  These acquisitions played a vital role in sustaining and expanding programs in fused glass and ceramics, ensuring participants have access to high-quality resources.

The new funding received through the New Horizons for Seniors Program enables the art centre to offer a diverse range of programs, including Fused Glass, Art & Technology, Art & Yoga, Pottery, Drawing, and Painting. Participants can choose from in-studio sessions or opt for online classes, ensuring accessibility and flexibility for all seniors.

THRIVE also aims to encourage volunteerism and mentorship among seniors, with participants actively involved in project development, instruction, and as volunteer Seniors' Studio & Social Assistants. These collaborative efforts ensure a supportive environment where seniors can learn, create, and connect with one another.

All THRIVE programs are offered at no charge or by donation, making them accessible to older adults of all backgrounds and income levels. With programs available throughout the year, participants can explore new artistic mediums regardless of experience.
