Mayor Siscoe’s statement regarding Councillor Robin McPherson’s election to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Board of Directors

June 10th, 2024 – This past weekend, St. Catharines City Councillor Robin McPherson was elected to a seat on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Board of Directors.

Since being appointed to council in 2022 and later elected as a City Councillor, Councillor McPherson has been dedicated to making significant changes that positively impact the City of St. Catharines, most notably with the establishment of the first Regional and Municipal Taskforce focused on Community Safety and Well-Being in Downtown St. Catharines, addressing critical issues like homelessness, addiction, and mental health while supporting the business community.

As a current member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Finance, Infrastructure, and Transportation Committee, McPherson has actively participated in advocacy efforts, including the FCM Advocacy Days in November 2023. Through successful advocacy, she has secured unanimous support from St. Catharines City Council for the FCM New Municipal Growth Framework and the current funding structure for the Canadian Community Building Fund. Collaborating with organizations like the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce, she has played and continues to play a key role in advancing policies that promote sustainable growth and community building across all municipalities in Canada.

This achievement is a testament to her dedication and leadership in serving the community. Councillor McPherson's new role on the board will allow her to further advocate for the needs and interests of St. Catharines and contribute to shaping policies at the national level.

On behalf of St. Catharines Council, I want to congratulate Councillor McPherson on this well-deserved appointment. She, along with Regional Councillor Diana Huson of Pelham who was also successful in being elected to the Board, will do a fantastic job of representing the concerns of St. Catharines and Niagara at the National level.
