Lincoln, ON – (August 8, 2024) – The Town of Lincoln is proud to announce that our very own Town Crier, Mark Molnar, was recognized at the Tuesday, August 6, 2024, council meeting for winning the 2024 Provincial Town Criers Competition held in Petrolia.
In June 2024, Town Criers from across Ontario gathered in Petrolia for the Provincial Town Criers Competition, organized by the Petrolia 150 Committee as part of the town's milestone anniversary celebrations. After two mornings of public proclamations in Victoria Park, Mark Molnar, Town Crier of the Town of Lincoln and the City of St. Catharines, emerged as the winner. The event saw nine competitors deliver cries about their hometown, horses, and historical Petrolia before a panel of judges.
“We are incredibly proud of Mark for representing Lincoln with such accuracy and enthusiasm,” said Town of Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton. “His dedication to his craft and our community is truly inspiring.”
“Mark’s accomplishment is a testament to his hard work and the rich tradition of town crying,” said Deputy Mayor Greg Reimer. “We are delighted to see him recognized at the provincial level.”
“The competition in Petrolia was one of the best organized I’ve ever attended, and the welcome we received there was truly heartwarming,” said Mark Molnar, Town Crier. “It was a fantastic experience to connect with fellow Town Criers and celebrate our shared passion for this historic tradition. I am honoured to be recognized by the Town of Lincoln Council for this achievement.”
A Town Crier makes proclamations and announcements for their town or community, using the traditional opening word “OYEZ!” to capture attention. They conclude their cries with phrases like “God Bless Canada!”
Congratulations to Mark Molnar for this prestigious award and for bringing pride to Lincoln.
