NIAGARA POLO RETURNS TO THE HISTORIC COMMONS IN NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE

Niagara Polo is a fundraiser in support of Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum. Members from the Toronto
Polo Club will play two 4-chukker polo games on the historic Commons in Niagara-on-the-Lake,
Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 12 – 4 pm.

The event includes a traditional divot stomp with bubbly; wine, beer and food vendors; half-time
entertainment; vintage & performance car parade; prizes; best hat contest; pony rides, artisans; silent
auction; and more!

The event occurs every two years and has grown substantially with each occurrence. In 2022,
approximately 2000 people attended from all over the province.

Funds raised go toward general operating expenses first, but any surplus goes into the Capital Fund.

The Niagara-on-the-Lake Commons (where the polo games take place) has a history that far exceeds our
knowledge. For more than ten thousand years it has been a place of ritual and gathering. For many years
it was also the home of the historic Indian Council House.

Later, after the War of 1812, it became headquarters for the British and Canadian defensive efforts in
the Niagara Peninsula. And the training camp for more than 100 thousand soldiers during the 20 th
century.

And there’s another connection – the Commons is the land on which officers and
gentleman played polo over 100 years ago during military training at Niagara Camp.

Thank you to Parks Canada for their ongoing support of this event and preparing the field – with our
fabulous committee members George Dell and Rene Bertschi.

And we sincerely thank the Town of Niagara on the Lake, for being a solid partner behind the Museum
as we grow.

Saturday September 14 th , we invite you all to join us for two wonderful polo matches with players from
the Toronto Polo Club — beginning with a classic parade — featuring vintage cars from the British Car
Club, Performance Cars, The Fyfe and Drum Corp, the Grimsby Pipe band, and of course all the amazing
stellar ponies and their riders.

During the day you can enjoy food, beverages, vendors, artisans, a silent auction, and pony rides for the
little ones.

There will be prizes for the best hat contest, sponsored by Beau Chapeau.
During intermission, enjoy the Hit Line Drummers from Toronto – and everyone’s favourite the Fabulous
Divot Stomp - with your complimentary glass of bubbly as you stomp away on the field preparing it for
the second game.

Gates open at 11 am, and we run till about 4pm.
By the end of the day, you’ll all know about chukkers, mallets, bumps and hooks….
We hope you will have discovered the power of Polo on the Commons.
