The Cobourg Police Service (CPS) Back-to-School Road Safety Campaign resulted in 123 charges in the Town of Cobourg during the first week of school. This initiative, which focused on road safety, pedestrian safety, school bus safety, and active transportation, encouraged everyone to do their part to make it a safe return to school.

From August 26th to 30th, CPS members were present in school zones, providing warnings the week before school, ready to engage and educate on road safety and speeding enforcement, followed by zero-tolerance enforcement in the first week of school.

During the first week of school, September 3rd to 6th, CPS officers were actively engaged in educating and enforcing road safety measures with the following results:

• 97 Speeding Charges
• 26 Provincial Offence Notices, including disobeying a stop sign, disobeying a sign at an intersection, parking in a school zone, driving with no insurance, and other Highway Traffic Act charges

As families continue to settle into a school routine, we want to remind everyone of these road safety tips:

• Slow Down: Always reduce your speed in school zones and be prepared to stop for children crossing the road.
• Stay Alert: Avoid distractions like cell phones while driving, especially in areas with high pedestrian traffic.
• Obey Traffic Signs: Follow all traffic signals and signs, including school bus and crossing guard signals.
• Be Patient: Allow extra time to commute during school hours and be patient with other drivers and pedestrians.

Thank you to all the students, parents, and community members for your support and commitment to road safety. Together, we can ensure a safe and successful school year for everyone.
