The Pembroke and Petawawa events for the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics were a resounding success.
Held on September 11, 2024, with idyllic weather, officers with the OPP, Ottawa Police Service, and Deep River Police Service, along with local Special Olympians ran and walked through Pembroke and Petawawa to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics.
With the generous support of the community the LETR was able to raise approximately $4500, including a $500 donation from the Royal Canadian Legion Pembroke Branch 72.
The LETR continues in Renfrew and Arnprior on September 26, 2024. The run begins in Renfrew at 10:00 a.m. at Town Hall and will end at the Renfrew OPP Detachment with a BBQ lunch for the participants. The running group will then assemble in Arnprior for a 3:00 p.m. start proceeding from Daniel Street and concluding at the Tim Hortons on Madawaska Boulevard. Runners will have their collection buckets ready for those who wish to make a donation.
All funds raised through Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run events are specifically placed into program support directly affecting all community Special Olympics Ontario (SOO) programs. Funds are then put into community programs to help pay for various expenses including games travel, accommodations, meals, staff support to the field, grants to new community programs, volunteer and athlete training, administration and information/ promotional materials and development initiatives.
