MNR staff, in collaboration with OPP, were onsite in the area of Spruce Glen Public School over the course of this week in response to multiple hold and secure events. Two of the three bears, including the mother bear and one cub, were captured overnight and the other cub was captured this afternoon. The entire family group was captured within a kilometre of the school and nearby restaurants. They are being relocated onto an area of Crown land well away from Huntsville and any human development.

While this specific situation has been resolved, MNR believes these bears were attracted to the area by unsecured food waste. The ministry reminds the public that managing bear attractants is a community effort and is working with residents, business owners, local police, and school officials to raise awareness about black bears and reduce attractants to minimize bear encounters.
