Niagara Region joins communities around the world in recognizing World Homeless Day which aims to raise awareness about the needs of people who experience homelessness.
On this day, we acknowledge and thank the many agencies, organizations, non-profit services, housing providers, local area municipalities and individuals who are working to not only ensure residents experiencing homelessness have access to supports and services but also to help make a difference in preventing and ending homelessness.
Many circumstances in life can lead to the conditions where a person becomes vulnerable and at risk of homelessness. In Niagara, there are more than 1,100 members of our community experiencing homelessness who deserve our respect and support. If you or someone you know experiences, or is at risk of experiencing homelessness, you can access a variety of supports including:
- Assertive Street Outreach. A housing-focused program that engages with people experiencing unsheltered homelessness.
- Homelessness Prevention Programs. These help individuals and families keep a safe and appropriate place to live and avoid becoming homeless.
- Housing-Focused Emergency Shelters in Niagara. Funds emergency shelters to provide temporary support for individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Supportive Housing Programs. Funds services to support the housing needs of individuals and families in the community.
