Beefsteak Society Dinner

Join the Friends of Fort George and Parks Canada for our very popular fundraiser dinner, which will be fashioned after the popular Sublime Beefsteak Society of England. The dinner will take place at Navy Hall on November 7, 2024 and will include a steak dinner, live music by Tom Keefer and Celtic Cross, an auction and great entertainment.

Started in the 1700s, the Beefsteak Society came to symbolize patriotic and liberal concepts of prosperity. It is the oldest surviving dinner society in Britain. Throughout the 19th century, the club included royalty such as George IV, statesmen, military leaders, actors, artists such as William Hogarth, musicians and writers.

The Beefsteak society would meet weekly, and members would wear a blue coat and buff waistcoat with a brass button bearing a gridiron motif and the words “Beef and liberty”. The steaks and baked potatoes were accompanied by port or porter. After dinner, the evening was given up to noisy revelry.

We hope you will join us for a special evening of food and merriment. The cost: $120 for members; $130 for non-members. Tickets must be reserved in advance as space is limited.

For more information, contact the Friends of Fort George at 905-468-6621 or email admin@friendsoffortgeorge.ca.  All proceeds from the evening will help to support student employment opportunities at Fort George and Brock's Monument.
