Council to Review a Draft Advisory Committees of Council Policy at Tonight’s Meeting

At tonight’s Committee of the Whole – General Meeting, Council will receive a draft of the Advisory Committees of Council Policy, a key step in enhancing the structure and operations of Advisory Committees. This initiative demonstrates the Town's commitment to improving the ways in which residents can actively participate in local government.

Council will review the draft policy, and, pending approval, Staff will begin a consultation process with all existing Advisory Committee members. Members of the public are invited to provide their input as well and can do so by emailing clerks@notl.com. Feedback will be gathered and shared with Council for consideration before the policy is finalized early next year.

This draft policy aims to streamline the guidelines for Advisory Committees into one comprehensive document, covering everything from recruitment and selection processes to operating procedures and the Code of Conduct. By consolidating these processes, the Town believes this approach will ensure greater clarity, consistency, and transparency moving forward and ensure that Committees continue to serve the needs of Council and the community.

The Town thanks all current and future Committee Members for their dedication, which strengthens governance and decision-making and appreciates the diverse perspectives that help shape the quality of life in Niagara-on-the-Lake. This policy is a key step in optimizing Committee functions to better support Council’s priorities.

Tune in to tonight’s meeting at 6:00 p.m. to stay updated on this important development.
