Driver Had Illegally Crossed Border, Was Unaware They Were In Canada

(RENFREW, ON) - The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver from Vermont, USA with impaired driving.

On October 17, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Renfrew OPP received reports of a truck being stuck in a drive-thru in Cobden. The vehicle had flat tires, and the licence plate was from Vermont.

OPP attended the scene and located the truck and driver. The driver didn't know where they were, and still believed they were in the United States. Police learned that the driver had failed to stop at the border and there were grounds for his arrest.

As a result of the investigation, Roger CHURCH, age 52 of Milton, Vermont, was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
