Haliburton Kawartha Northumberland Peterborough Board of Health Meeting Summary

MOH Update:

Dr. Thomas Piggott, Acting Medical Officer of Health and CEO for Haliburton Kawartha Northumberland Peterborough (HKNP) Health Unit provided an update on merger progress. Dr. Piggott highlighted achievements made in the six (6) weeks since HKNP became a legal entity. Including,

  • Development of governance structure, policies, and committees including Indigenous Health Advisory Circle and Stewardship
  • Advancements towards developing the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) model which will assist in the development of a Management Team model and allow for further exploration of program harmonization, and
  • Starting regular check-ins with staff at each of the four (4) office locations.

Dr. Piggott highlighted the opportunities that come from this merger including expanded capacity to address
 community needs and public health emergencies.

 

8.1 Report: Cost Share Budget
The Board of Health approved a 2025 cost-shared budget. The approved budget will see a $1.23 increase per capita to each local funding partner over the 2024 contributions which is a 4% increase for legacy HKPR local funders and a 5.6% increase to legacy PPH local funders. To offset the additional increase of 1.6% for legacy PPH local funders, Merger Funding will be drawn in to hold the levy issued to all local funders at 4% for 2025.

8.2 Report: Policies for Review
Three (3) Board of Health policies were reviewed and approved. These include:

  • Board Meeting Proceedings
  • Delegation of Authority
  • Renumeration of Community Members

8.3 Report: Streaming Report

The Board of Health adopted the recommendation to offer live streaming and summary notes of regular Board of Health meetings moving forward. Meetings will be live streamed to YouTube and communicated with the Board Package prior to meetings. Board of Health meetings will be summarized and shared with the community, community partners, and media partners after the meeting. Approach for communicating meetings aligns with legacy HKPR approach as it provides transparency and accessibility for community members.

 

Next HKNP Board of Health Meeting
The next meeting of the Board of Health for the Haliburton Kawartha Northumberland Peterborough will take place on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the Port Hope Office, located at 200 Rose Glen Rd, Port Hope and will be an in-person/hybrid meeting.
