The Cobourg Police Service (CPS) is pleased to announce the launch of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP) for May. Aligning with Canada Road Safety Week 2025 themes, STEP aims to enhance road safety in Cobourg by targeting critical driving behaviours that endanger road users.
Canada Road Safety Week 2025, from May 13 to 19, is an enforcement-driven campaign spearheaded by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP). This year's theme is "ROAD SAFETY: Every road. Every day.
Everyone." The campaign is part of Canada's Road Safety Strategy 2025, which aspires to make Canada's roads the safest in the world.
For May, CPS will align the road safety focus with the themes of CACP Road Safety Week, working to address high-risk driving behaviours, including:
• Drug-impaired driving
• Alcohol-impaired driving
• Fatigue-impaired driving
• Distracted driving
• Aggressive driving
• Driving without a seatbelt
Constable Taylor Emmerton emphasized the importance of this initiative: "Road safety is a priority for our community. By addressing these dangerous driving behaviours, we aim to protect drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and other vulnerable road users. Our May STEP efforts are dedicated to promoting responsible driving habits and ensuring compliance with traffic laws."
In addition, CPS will host a seatbelt awareness day throughout the community and a car seat clinic on May 25.
