$220,200 in OTF Grants from the Ontario Government Helps Strengthen Local Organization

St. Catharines, ON – May 25, 2025 – On Sunday, local MPP Jennie Stevens joined the Walk for Alzheimer’s at Brock University to celebrate $220,200 in funding awarded to The Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region (ASNR) through two grants from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The funds were used to increase its fundraising capacity and operational efficiencies. The projects have helped ASNR financially recover, build long-term sustainability, and enhance its operational capabilities.

"The Ontario Trillium Foundation grant has been a game-changer for the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region. The Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region has been a vital source of support, education, and care for countless residents, empowering individuals and families to navigate the challenges of dementia with dignity and compassion,” said Jennie Stevens, MPP for St. Catharines. “By investing in both fundraising capacity and technology upgrades, this support is helping ensure long-term sustainability for an organization that so many families in our community rely on. These improvements mean more effective service delivery and greater impact for those living with dementia and their caregivers. I’m proud to see provincial funding making such a meaningful difference right here in Niagara.”

In March 2023, ASNR was awarded a $189,000 Resilient Communities Fund grant which funded the hiring of a Development Officer and revamp its fundraising methodology and practices. This has helped the organization financially recover from the impacts of COVID-19 and build long-term resiliency for future success.

A $31,200 Capital grant was also awarded to ASNR in June 2024 to fund increases to the organization’s IT security and infrastructure by replacing two outdated servers with a newer, more efficient network.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. These grants have greatly enhanced our ability to raise funds and streamline our operations, allowing us to better serve the Niagara community and ensure long-term sustainability said Teena Kindt, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region. The changes we've made will have a lasting impact on our ability to support individuals living with dementia and their families.”

The Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region (ASNR) utilizes a person-centered model of care, assisting individuals with dementia, their caregivers, and families in understanding dementia as it pertains to their unique experiences. It offers a range of programs, education, counselling and services that operate along a personalized continuum of care. These supports and resources empower people living with dementia and their families to confidently navigate the healthcare system, assert their rights, cultivate meaningful connections, and establish robust support networks.
