Once again the Museum’s Community Courtyard welcomes everyone to unwind in the serenity of a
garden setting—enjoy Yoga, Essentrics, lunch, coffee, friends, host your next book club meeting, plan
your wedding, or simply just relax in the shade of the NOTL Museum tent. Historically, the purpose of a
courtyard was to be a place of social interaction, with a sense of intimacy and feeling of community. The
Community Courtyard offers all of that, and free WIFI too. Visitors will have the opportunity to check
their email, catch up on some work, or learn more about the Museum and other visitor sites in Niagara-
on-the-Lake. In July, August and September, the Museum is pleased to offer the following activities:
July:
For the month of July, Sonya Marie de Lazzer’s popular yoga class will once again be available each
Wednesday mornings at 9am, weather permitting. De Lazzer, a certified yoga teacher (RYT 500), offers
a gentle morning Hatha yoga practice, to begin the day. Hatha Yoga is a traditional style of yoga that
focuses on physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation to align and
calm the body, mind, and spirit. All levels are welcome. Please bring your own mat and props (optional).
Admission is by donation, but participants are encouraged to reserve their spot as space is limited to 10
participants.
Yoga in the Courtyard: Wednesdays - July 2, July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30.
August/September:
During August and September, Judy Hernder will be offering all-level classes in the practice of Essentrics.
Not as well known as Yoga, Essentrics is a form of exercise that incorporates the flowing movements of
Tai Chi, with the balancing and strengthening properties of ballet. Music is incorporated to enhance
rhythm and flow, with participants using chairs for stability. The goal is to promote aging with grace,
reduction of pain and injuries, and to encourage range of motion.
Admission is by donation, and participants are encouraged to reserve their spots.
Essentrics in the Courtyard: Wednesdays - August 20, August 27, September 3, September 10.
