Fort Erie, ON—The next phase of repairs to the Fort Erie breakwall will begin on Friday, July 4. This work will focus on a section of the breakwall behind Mather Arch Park, just south of the Peace Bridge and is expected to be completed by late October 2025.
Over the past several months, Niagara Parks has engaged a coastal engineering team to develop a pilot program aimed at strengthening breakwall and shoreline protection. The goal is to ensure the long-term sustainability of the shoreline, parkland and adjacent trails in the face of increasingly severe weather events, which have caused significant damage in recent years.
Following an open procurement process, Rankin Construction was awarded the contract to carry out the Niagara Parks Shoreline Protection Pilot Project near Mather Arch Park.
During construction, residents and visitors may experience dust, loud noise and temporary traffic disruptions. Section of Niagara River Recreation Trail to be closed during construction Construction fencing will be installed around the work site. For public safety, the section of the Niagara River Recreation Trail within the construction zone will be closed. No pedestrian detour will be available.
