Opening The Cove Park comes with a community celebration

Welland, ON – The City of Welland is pleased to announce the official grand opening of The Cove – Rob Fulbrook Park on Saturday, July 12 at 10 a.m. Located at 540 Canal Bank Street in Dain City West, this new park is a testament to collaboration and community-building.

Developed through a partnership with Empire Homes, the park was fully funded through a development agreement, ensuring that growth continues to pay for growth in Welland. The developer was also responsible for the construction of the site.

Named in honour of Rob Fulbrook, a 14-year-old Welland teen who tragically lost his life in a workplace accident during Take Our Kids to Work Day in 2000, the park serves as a lasting tribute to his memory. A commemorative plaque has been installed on site, and members of the Fulbrook family will be in attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“The Cove – Rob Fulbrook Park is more than just a green space; it’s a vibrant, accessible gathering place for residents of all ages and abilities,” said Jessica Ruddell, director of community services. “We hope this space brings joy to families while also standing as a meaningful tribute to Rob. With features that promote play, leisure, connection to nature, and physical activity, the park reflects our commitment to livability and health and well-being in Welland.”

The park includes junior and senior play structures, a splash pad, and a universal washroom to support inclusive, family-friendly recreation. It features welcoming entrance elements, paved pathways, and a picnic area to encourage gatherings and outdoor enjoyment. An amphitheatre and open green space create opportunities for community events and passive recreation. The site connects to the Welland Recreational Trail and offers lighting and clear sight lines to the recreational canal, enhancing safety and visual appeal. Accessible parking will be completed by the end of 2025.

The community is invited to join the ribbon-cutting celebration at The Cove Park, located across from the Canals Presentation Centre at 635 Canal Bank Street. While the ceremony will take place at the park, attendees are encouraged to continue the festivities afterward at the Presentation Centre, where there will be food trucks, refreshments, face painting, and more.
