Niagara Falls, ON—Through a public-private partnership with Niagara Parks, Toronto Power Hotel Inc. has begun preliminary work and site preparation for the redevelopment of the Toronto Power Generating Station, with contractor Rankin Construction set to mobilize on July 28, 2025.
As of July 28, construction crews will begin the process of building a cofferdam within the Niagara River to facilitate access to the east side of the building. A cofferdam is a temporary enclosure built within a body of water to ensure a dry and safe environment for construction work. Working with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, a window of time to build the infrastructure was provided to ensure minimal disruption to fish species in the Niagara River.
During this period, a full-time lane reduction of the eastern north bound lane will be in place and the pedestrian pathways to the north and south of the building will be closed. A pedestrian detour around the closure is in place, with crosswalks available near Dufferin Islands and at Fraser Hill to access the Niagara River Recreation Trail on the opposite side of the Niagara Parkway.
The redevelopment of the historic power station represents a significant private-sector investment by Toronto Power Hotel Inc. to transform the site into a brand-new, world-class guest experience, including Niagara Falls’ first five-star accommodation.
