The Drumhead Ceremony was traditionally held as a means for soldiers in the field to take time for religious and spiritual reflection. Altars would be fashioned from the Regiment’s drums in cases where a church was unavailable. The Royal Canadian Legion uses this occasion to bless the ceremonial flags used by the branches.
