Update on flood remediation in Welland and Niagara Falls hospital

August 15, 2025– Niagara Health is pleased to share that the Welland Hospital has returned to normal operations following earlier flooding caused by an internal pipe burst. Extensive remediation was completed in affected areas, including the Medical Device Reprocessing department, operating rooms and patient care spaces. All environmental safety checks have been finalized, and patient care has fully resumed.

At the Niagara Falls Hospital, minor repairs continue following a July water main break. While this work is ongoing, patient care was minimally impacted at the time of the event, and most hospital services have been operating as normal since shortly after the incident.

The two flooding events were very different in nature and scope, which is why timelines and levels of disruption varied.

Thanks to the professionalism, quick action and teamwork of our staff, physicians and partners, we were able to maintain safe, high-quality care for patients during both of these challenging events. Our focus has been, and will continue to be, on ensuring our facilities are safe for everyone who works, receives care and visits our hospitals.
