There was chaos Monday night in Milton, after Council voted down a motion that called on the town to urge the Federal Government to establish a two way arms embargo against Israel, request an expansion of the Gaza temporary resident visa program and endorse the principles of the apartheid free communities pledge, which is a commitment by a coalition of groups and communities to end support for what it calls "Israel's apartheid regime." The motion was defeated in a close 5-4 vote. Councillors Sameera Ali, Adil Khalqi, Sammy Ijaz and Sarah Marshall supported the motion, while Councillors John Challinor, Colin Best, George Minakakis and Rick Malboeuf, along with Mayor Gord Krantz, voting against it.
