Monday January 22nd, 7:00 pm, at A Novel Idea: Join Kara Stanley as she reads from "Fallen," the non-fiction account of her husband’s 2008 life-altering accident that resulted in a severe brain and spinal cord injury and the role music plays in his ongoing recovery, as well as from the recently released "Ghost Warning," a novel John Gould describes as “…a thoroughly engrossing journey, sustained by grief and wonder”. With a focus on process, Kara will briefly discuss how these very different texts informed and influenced one another.

A graduate of UBC’s MFA program in creative writing, Kara Stanley lives, works and plays on the Sunshine Coast with her musician husband, Simon Paradis. Her first book, "Fallen: A Trauma, a Marriage, and the Transformative Power of Music," was both included in CBC’s list of Best Books of 2015 and long-listed for the BC National Award for Non-Fiction. She is a contributing songwriter to Stanton Paradis’ 2013 CD Good Road Home and Simon Paradis’ 2015 CD Mouthful of Stars. "Ghost Warning," her first novel, was released September 2017.
