Rob Mikel, Cobourg's award winning premier historian, will give an illustrated talk on Cobourg’s Gilded Age: Summer Colony and Grand Cottages. To an earlier generation Cobourg was something more than a pretty little lakeside town, it was the destination of choice for throngs of prosperous Americans, who called their adopted town “the Newport of the North”. The presentation will be illustrated with photos, past and present, of the grand hotels and mansions. Presented by Victoria Hall Volunteers the event will be held on Thursday April 5th in the Concert Hall, Victoria Hall, Cobourg. Doors open at 6:45 pm, the lecture begins at 7:30. No reserved seating. Tickets are $20 (plus handling and HST) which includes the presentation and refreshments.
