Puppies transferred from remote Manitoba community are looking for loving homes
Brockville, ON (May 25, 2018) – Six puppies that made a long journey from a remote community in Manitoba earlier this month are ready for adoption at the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre.
These furry little sweethearts – Rose, Lily, Petunia, Marigold, Buttercup and Dande – are approximately nine weeks old and are looking for a forever home to call their own. Interested in adopting them? The Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre will be facilitating adoptions on a first-come, first served basis.
These puppies were among 26 dogs transferred from a remote community to be re-homed. On the way to Ontario, the “bark bus” stopped in Dryden where it picked up six additional dogs from Second Chance Pet Network. The dogs arrived at the Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre on May 12 for a stopover before heading to various Ontario SPCA Animal Centres and partnering Humane Societies across the province.
The transfer was made possible thanks to the vision of the leadership and volunteers in the community, the collaboration of volunteers along the way, Earthdog Terrier Rescue of Manitoba, K9 Advocates Manitoba, 4Champ Animal Rescue, Northern Legacy Horse Farm, Second Chance Pet Network, Feeding Program for Northern Dogs, Northern Reach Rescue Network and the Northern Spay Neuter Program.
“These puppies are absolutely adorable and they’re so friendly and playful,” says Marianne Carlyle, Manager, Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre. “We encourage anyone considering adopting a dog to come and meet these little bundles of joy. If you can’t adopt, there are many ways you can get involved in the Year of the Northern Dog initiative.”
To bring awareness, attention and action to Northern dog overpopulation, the Ontario SPCA has declared 2018 the Year of the Northern Dog. In response to many caring and compassionate Northern communities, the Ontario SPCA and its partners have developed a network of individuals, organizations and communities aimed at bringing awareness to the issue and working alongside Northern communities with a common goal – to change lives.
