Public Notices/Announcements - Windsor/Leamington - Roller Skating Returns to Essex

Submitted by cdanby on

Do you remember roller skating at the old Memorial Arena? Mayor Ron McDermott sure does.

“It was a great way to spend the evening with friends when we were growing up,” McDermott said. He has fond memories of meeting up with friends from school on the summer break, catching up, and having fun. McDermott was excited to hear that roller skating is coming back to Essex after such a long absence.

The Essex Centre Sports Complex, 60 Fairview Ave W, Essex Centre will host roller skating and rollerblading on the cement pad of the Libro Rink on Wednesday nights. Families and friends can skate from 6pm until 8:30pm. The fee to participate is $3 per person or $10.50 for a family of five.

“We have had several requests from residents to bring roller skating back to the Town of Essex,” said Doug Sweet, Director of Community Services, adding that it is a great opportunity to get the community active, and perhaps bring back some old memories.

Participants may wear roller skates or rollerblades, and helmets are optional.

The program will begin on Wednesday, June 6 and continue until the ice returns in August.

People are encouraged to dust off their old roller skates, and come out for a great night of family fun.
