This year, Waste Reduction Week Canada runs from October 21st to 27th, during which time citizens are encouraged to be increasingly conscious of their consumption habits and eco-footprint. Since the mid-1980's, recycling councils and environmental organizations have held events and workshops to celebrate the economy and its resources, while also encouraging and educating the population on new solutions to keep our planet healthy. The predominate message of this national campaign is to empower consumers to take action and adopt the tools available to them, in hopes of working towards a greener, more efficient way of living and coping with the many environmental challenges that we face.

-

The Education Foundation of Niagara is passionate about this project, and is looking forward to collaborating with the local community in giving back. In partnership with the Niagara Region and their Waste Management team, the Foundation will be hosting a Compost Giveaway on Saturday October 26th at the DSBN Academy (130 Louth St, St. Catharines). This will be one of several designated locations throughout the region, and proceeds that are raised specifically on this day at this location, will support student financial need. The event will run from 9:00-3:00pm, while supplies last.

-

Community members are invited to visit the DSBN Academy and consider making a donation in exchange for compost. Participants are encouraged to bring their own vessel to collect the compost, and pricing will range from $5 to $25, depending on the desired amount. An excellent alternative to fertilizer and one of nature's best mulches, the compost is made of all organic matter and recommended as a healthy choice for your home. Everyone is invited to join in on the fun and make a contribution to not only the environment, but to lives of the students in need within our community.
