Join the Essex Chapter of the Huntington Society of Canada for the Essex Indy Go-Kart Challenge! The first Indy event took place in Niagara Falls, raising $3,000. In 1996, the Indys went National and have raised well over $1 million for the HD community since then. Now, as Canada's largest fundraising Go-Kart event, this volunteer-led day is dedicated to Canadian families whose lives are affected by Huntington disease (HD). All proceeds will go directly to the Huntington Society of Canada to support those affected by HD through family services and breakthrough research into a cure.

Huntington disease (HD) is a debilitating brain disorder that is fatal and incurable. About one in every 7,000 Canadians has HD and approximately one in every 5,500 is at-risk of developing the disease. Many more are touched by HD whether as a caregiver, a family member, or a friend. Huntington disease is often described as a person having the symptoms of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS – simultaneously. As the disease progresses, a person with Huntington’s become less able to manage movements, recall events, make decisions and control emotions. The disease leads to incapacitation and, eventually, death.
The Huntington Society of Canada (HSC) is a respected leader in the worldwide effort to find a meaningful treatment for Huntington disease. HSC is the only Canadian health charity dedicated to providing help and hope for families dealing with Huntington disease across Canada.
Support groups provide an opportunity for care partners caring for someone living in the community, who share a similar experience, to support one another, exchange information and ideas and in doing so, strengthen their capacity to cope. Case counsellors facilitate these groups and offer information and guidance according to the needs and interests of the group. Support groups run once a month for 1.5 hours. View the calendar below for detailed information about dates and locations. Respite services available - please call the Alzheimer Society at 905-687-3914 to discuss eligibility.
