Southbound Dougall Avenue will be reduced to one lane between Ouellette Place and South Cameron Boulevard for exploratory work as part of the Dougall Avenue/CN Rail Underpass and Multi-Use Trail project on Wednesday, July 17 and Thursday, July 18 between 8am and 5pm.

Plus, enjoy free family activities prior to the movie starting at 6:30pm. CKRecreation Play Rangers will have plenty of games and activities for children of all ages.

Admission is free, and movies start at dusk.

The Human Resources Department is pleased to announce that applications for the 2019/2020 Firefighter Recruitment are currently available on the City’s website.

The City of Windsor will accept applications for the 2019/2020 Firefighter Recruitment from Wednesday, July 10 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) until no later than 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Wednesday, July 24. No late applications will be accepted.

To be considered for the Firefighter Recruitment with the City of Windsor’s Fire & Rescue Services Department, the minimum requirements are as follows:

  • At time of application, an applicant must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • At time of application, an applicant must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • At time of application, an applicant must possess an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency.
  • At time of hire, an applicant must provide proof of a current, valid and lawful Class “D” driver’s licence with “Z” endorsement in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, for the purposes of operating a City of Windsor vehicle and provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment.

The City of Windsor only accepts applications for the Firefighter Recruitment on-line.  For those applicants who do not have access to a computer, please note, computer access is available at your local library. The Town of Essex is back with the first outdoor movie night of the year on Saturday, July 20 in Essex Centre starting at 6pm.

Kids and their families can enjoy Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, plus a few fun features at Essex Heritage Gardens (rain location: Essex Centre Sports Complex).

The first event, hosted in partnership with the Essex Firemen’s Association, will feature fire truck tours and important fire safety tips.

“This family-friendly event is perfect for all ages,” explained Cynthia Cakebread, Manager, Recreation and Culture. “Not only can kids get up close and personal with our local firefighters, they can also kick back and enjoy a great movie.”

The event will also feature free popcorn. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own blanket and lawn chairs. The fire truck will arrive at 6pm, with the movie beginning at dusk.

A second outdoor movie night will be hosted on Saturday, August 17 at Colchester Park (rain location: Harrow and Colchester South Community Centre). Kids and their families can enjoy How to Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World starting at dusk. Free popcorn also included.
