Residents from the Colchester Centre area are invited to an Open House on Saturday, July 27 to discuss and provide feedback on the future of their community.

The event, which will run from 11am to 2pm in the Colchester Community Centre (100 Jackson Street), will provide community members an opportunity to weigh in on potential changes to the Colchester Secondary Plan and local zoning bylaw.

Residents, visitors, and any other interested individuals are encouraged to provide input into the Secondary Plan, which is a community development plan designed specifically for Colchester Centre. Town Planners will be on hand to hear your ideas and collaborate with you on future growth opportunities, tourism and recreation initiatives, and design guidelines for the Colchester area.

“As one of the Town’s urban centres, Colchester has a deep-rooted history, lakefront attributes, and an expanding regional presence that we can build on,” said Lori Chadwick, Director of Development Services. “Council has identified their desire for Colchester to grow and develop in terms of retail establishments and community amenities, and this event is the first step in developing the framework and vision for that process.”

The Open House coincides with the third annual Colchester Family Fun event, which starts at Noon at Colchester Park. See the full line-up at www.essex.ca/ColchesterFamilyFun

Public Notices/Announcements - Windsor/Leamington - Interactive Walking Tour - Walkerville Story

Following the successful launch of the interactive, self-guided Sandwich Heritage Walking Tour in 2017, the City officially launched the next in the walking tour series today with the Walkerville Heritage Walking Tour. The handy online tour includes close to 50 points of interest, from the earliest buildings commissioned by town founder Hiram Walker to the dazzling heritage homes on Willistead Crescent, and from the Beaux Arts Revival “Bank of Montreal” architecture to the storied Walkerville Brewery (where today’s launch was hosted).

The new Walkerville Heritage Walking Tour is a mobile friendly website that helps you conduct a self-guided tour and explore the history and heritage of the town that Hiram Walker built, at your convenience at any time of the day. Or, if you don’t have internet access on your phone while on tour, feel free to download the PDF version or print a copy before touring.

The choice of Walkerville Brewery to host today’s launch was apt, as it’s Stop #7 on the walking tour itself, and under the leadership of owner Mike Brkovich, it’s also doing its part to promote Walkerville’s history with the unveiling of the new “Bill Marentette Historical Brewery Exhibit.”

“Walkerville continues to be a favourite spot to live, visit, eat, drink and enjoy,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens. “It offers a remarkable combination of rich history and exciting new ventures at spots like the Walkerville Brewery where we’re celebrating today, and it is boosted year after year by great partners like the Walkerville BIA. I highly recommend the new tour as a way to discover and rediscover what it has to offer.”

The Town of Walkerville was founded by Hiram Walker and built around his world famous distillery operation, which still runs along the riverfront, having gone through many changes over the years. Now a part of Windsor, the Walkerville area includes a variety of historic buildings that remain in their original appearance or have been given new life through redevelopment.
